New Zealand's popular Steam Train, connecting Otago to Southland
The famous Kingston Flyer is back on track offering public train tours most Sundays through summer departing Kingston, Otago to Fairlight, Southland return. Take a step back in time on our historical vintage steam train powered by the mighty Ab795 Steam Locomotive. Located in stunning alpine Otago in the South Island of New Zealand, only 35 minutes from Queenstown. Relax and unwind along the 14km rail corridor (28km total return) in one of our 100-year-old fully restored wooden carriages on a 1.5 - 2 hour return journey admiring the spectacular scenery of the Kingston Lake Foreshore and surrounding high country alpine farmlands.
Highlights include chatting to our friendly train staff, listening to the sounds of a working steam engine, enjoying our onboard historical commentary, or racing our steam engine down at Fairlight, the Kingston Flyer offers an enjoyable experience for the whole family!
- Public train rides run mainly on Sundays through the operating season (Sep-June) -
- All trains depart from Kingston and return to Kingston Station, at 221 Kent Street -

- Online bookings are essential.
- All bookings for public train rides are available online, tickets can not be purchsed from the Kingston Flyer Cafe & Bar.
- Private Charters are available from Monday to Saturday, and are designed for groups of 40 people or more. Please email us for all enquiries.
- Public train trips are a 1.5 - 2 hour return trip departing Kingston. Please note, you can not board the train at Fairlight Railway Station.

Hats can now be purchased from the Fairlight Railway Station on Sundays from 10am-3pm during our operating season.
